Why Choose reusable products?

Here are some of the reasons why women are switching to reusable menstrual products:

For Your Health...

Remove any health concerns about Toxic Shock Syndrome, rayon fibres,
chemicals and skin irritations.

For Our Environment...

Save trees; reduce the use of toxic chemicals such as dioxin;
reduce "disposable" wastes which can take up to 500 years to break down.

Because of the Cost...

Buy once then enjoy ongoing $$$ savings during years of use!

As a Statement of Your Beliefs...

Make a lifestyle choice - tread lightly on the planet; no GST;
support local small business rather than multinational giants.

For Your Peace of Mind...

Avoid a mad rush to the shops when a period arrives early;
enjoy the freedom to 'walk right past that aisle at the supermarket';
discover that using products made from natural materials
minimises 'stale' odour often present with disposables.

For You:

For your health...

Moon Pads and the Keeper are more natural alternatives. Disposable tampons and pads may contain coverings or fillings which cause health concerns and/or allergies*.

Studies have shown that tampon absorbency has been implicated as contributing to potentially fatal Toxic Shock Syndrome. Tampons containing rayon fibres can irritate the lining of the vagina and many women become irritated and sore using disposable pads.

Traces of toxic chemicals have been found in many disposable pads and tampons. For example Dioxins, a side effect of chlorine bleaching, are known carcinogens which are resistant to biological breakdown and have been linked to birth defects, reproductive disorders, impaired liver function and depressed immune systems in humans and wildlife.

However, the Keeper is made from natural non-absorbent gum rubber* and 100% cotton Moon Pads are soft and natural on sensitive skin.

For your purse...

Choosing disposable products means an ongoing monthly expense of between $5 and $25 for every woman. Over her menstrual life this costs the average woman more than $5,000. By comparison, reusable alternatives give years of protection for a fraction of that cost.

And all the products available from Moon Pads are exempt from GST! As a small home-based business we have an annual turnover low enough to register for the exemption. Good value for customers choosing to support us instead of big multi-national companies. (Buy now, before we get bigger!)

And...

A number of women using these alternative products report that their periods are lighter or last fewer days; and most discover that using products made from natural materials minimises the distinctive 'stale' odour often present with disposables. (We've been told this is due to the dioxin residues from the disposables manufacturing process?)

For the Environment:

The average woman throws away about 10,000 pads or tampons in her life. In Australia alone this is over 1,385 million disposables per year which are either incinerated (bad for the ozone layer...) or put into land fills (where the plastic backing will take approximately 500 years to partially biodegrade...)

Many women are embracing environmentally friendly lifestyles. Using Moon Pads or the Keeper saves trees, reduces toxic chemical use and avoids 'throw-away' waste. It is a choice for our planet!

Healing After Rape Two courageous women have recently shared their stories of rape and recovery. Their stories are stories ALL women should hear. They are about abusive men and about women experiencing suffering and trauma; but they are also testimonies to healing and strength. These two stories are about a subject which our society rarely discusses. The huge, untold story of women being used and abused by men who are behaving in ways absolutely unacceptable to our society's values and beliefs, yet these men are often protected by the veil of secrecy. Please read these stories, cry with Evelyn and Chloe, grow with them, and grow in your own experience of womanhood and your own commitment to the safety of all people in our society.
